Green Diwali Campaign 2011

Green Team's Diwali Campaign has always been our NGO’s most fruitful and prestigious attempt. After three years in which three hundred and fifty households were convinced to celebrate Diwali in a green way, Green Team Welfare Society took a step ahead this year with ‘Green Diwali Campaign 2011', consisting of a Diwali Carnival and a Signature Campaign.

We set up a stall in the Diwali Carnival of Aegis Ltd. on Friday, the 14th of October. As said by our Founder President, Mr. Nakul Bhalla, the motive of this stall was not to sell products or collect revenue but to generate interest so that more people come forward and become aware about the green cause.

Our stall contained simple, handmade, eco friendly products made by our dedicated members. On display were beautiful diyas, earrings, key chains, envelopes, paintings and candle stands, which attracted many people to come and enquire about our organisation.

Our stall received a footfall of about a 100 people. We sold a good number of our products and above all, we spoke to dozens of people about our organization: The clean up and plantation drives carried out by us, our mission, our beliefs and our cause.

The Signature Campaign’s aim was to collect the maximum number of signatures possible before Diwali, on the pledge that the signees will not burst fire-crackers this year. Vice President, Sumedha Malaviya says, “We want to reach out to individuals instead of households this time. We will not accept signatures of those who are already with us in this cause. We want to reach out to new individuals. Once we convince an individual, he will automatically convince his household to go green.”

The members of our society strived to collect signatures by talking to and convincing various people in various places. As said by Aanchal Jain, Editor-in-Chief, “We will keep collecting signatures till the last possible moment.”

Overall, Green Team was successful in making a considerable number of people aware of the ways in which they can contribute to help save our planet. Neha Pradhan, Executive Member, shares her Diwali Carnival experience with us, “As soon as we were beginning to set up, people thronged our stall! It was very touching to see so many people come and appreciate our work and buy our products too.”

With our Green Diwali Signature Campaign we reached 225 individuals and a 110 households, a
substantial addition to the number of people who will celebrate an eco friendly Diwali from now on and in the
process, will slowly begin living a greener life.

For all those who feel that they are too insignificant to bring about a change, our team would like to tell you that only one person is needed to begin a revolution! The time has come to ‘Put Planet First’.
